One app holds your badge for every company and site you can enter

Many people carry more than one badge: a coworking card, a building fob and a client's card. The GateStride Pass app holds a badge for each company or site you have access to. Each company's GateStride stays separate, with its own center and its own records.

A lanyard full of cards for one working week

Plenty of people do not work behind a single door. A consultant spends Monday at one client and Thursday at another, each with its own card. Staff who split time between two offices carry two badges. Someone who rents a desk in a coworking space has the space's card on top of their employer's. In a multi-tenant building, the tenant company has its own suite access while the building may run something else for the lobby.

Each card is a separate thing to issue, carry, forget at home and return. And each company issuing a card to an outsider has the same worries: was it returned when the project ended, and who is holding it now?

What the person usually does have, every day, is a phone.

One app, a badge per company

The GateStride Pass app, in early access for Android and iPhone, holds a badge for every company or site that has given you access through its own GateStride. Walk up to a door at your own office and the app works there. Walk up to a door at a client that runs GateStride and has added you, and it works there too.

At each door, the door node runs a one-time signed challenge and response with your phone over Bluetooth, checks that you are allowed through that door at that time, and unlocks through that company's existing access system. Your phone's private key is created in its secure element (StrongBox on Android, Secure Enclave on iOS) and never leaves it. If the company has hands-free entry, your phone can stay in your pocket. See hands-free entry.

Each company's GateStride is separate

This is the part that matters most to the companies involved. Every company runs its own GateStride, on its own premises: its own door nodes and its own GateStride center. There is no GateStride cloud and no relay that ties them together.

For the person carrying the phone, that means one app. For each company, it means the same control it would have over a card it issued, and no visibility for anyone else. More on this in security and privacy by design.

Why separate matters to the companies

When a consultant carries a client's card, the client controls that card and the consultant's employer has no view of it. GateStride keeps that same boundary. The badge for a client lives in the app on the person's phone, but the decisions and the records stay with the client's own center.

That is also why there is no shared GateStride service in the middle. A shared service would mean one place holding entry records for many unrelated companies. GateStride avoids that by design: each company's door nodes talk to that company's center, on that company's premises, and admins reach it over their own VPN. Nothing about one company's doors passes through another company's system.

For a coworking operator or a building with several tenants, this means each member company can run its own access without trusting a neighbor with its data. Companies that monitor entries and exits should check their state's notice rules, the same as they would for card access.

Where this fits

What each company keeps

Each company's GateStride sits on top of the access control it already owns. Locks, readers, panels, request-to-exit, fire release and cards are untouched. Free egress stays with each building's certified system, and GateStride never requires anything to exit. If one company's GateStride is down, that company's existing system keeps running its doors as before, and other companies are not involved at all.

GateStride is in early access and verified on Kantech EntraPass, with LenelS2 OnGuard and Brivo in development and Honeywell, Software House and HID planned. Check compatibility, read how it works, or ask your integrator through our partners page.

What it does not do

Questions

Do I need a separate app for each company?
No. The GateStride Pass app holds a badge for every company or site that has given you access through its own GateStride.
Can my employer see when I enter a client's office?
No. Each company's GateStride is separate, with its own center and its own records. One company cannot see another's.
Can a client see my access at my own office?
No. The client's GateStride only knows about the client's own doors. Your employer's records stay in your employer's center.
What happens when a client removes me?
Your access at that client ends at its door nodes in about a second. Your badges for other companies are not affected.
Is there a central GateStride service connecting all the companies?
No. There is no GateStride cloud and no relay. Each company's center and door nodes run on that company's premises.
Does this work at a building that does not use GateStride?
No. The app holds badges only for companies and sites that run GateStride. Elsewhere you still use that building's own card or credential.
