Paxton10: controllers, Gen 2 changes, end of life and upgrade options

Paxton (UK)GateStride: Not yet scheduledReviewed October 2026

By Tom Jin

Paxton10 is the newer of Paxton's two access-control platforms, alongside Net2. It combines access control and video surveillance in one system. Paxton's US page says a system scales to 1,000 doors and 1,000 cameras, with up to 100 sites on a single server. Doors are run by Paxton10 single-door controllers, and staff can use the Paxton Key app as a Bluetooth credential on a phone or smartwatch.

You typically find Paxton10 in small and mid-size offices and multi-site businesses that bought through a Paxton installer and wanted doors and cameras in one interface. It sits in the same market as Net2 but is a separate system with its own controllers and software. The recent changes are on the hardware side: a second-generation (MK2) door controller launched in August 2025, and the Paxton10 Video Controller stopped shipping on 1 January 2026.

How to recognise Paxton10

A Paxton10 site has a Paxton10 server on the office network, and the management software names Paxton10. Door hardware is Paxton10 single-door controllers, and Paxton10 cameras often appear in the same interface as the doors, which is the clearest difference from Net2. Staff may open doors with the Paxton Key app on a phone or smartwatch, and managers may use the Paxton Connect app (Paxton also offers Connect for Net2 sites, so the app alone does not settle it). If the office PC runs a Windows program named Net2, you are on Net2, which has its own reference page.

  • A Paxton10 server on the office network and Paxton10 named in the management software.
  • Paxton10 single-door controllers at the doors, with US part numbers such as 010-522-US, 010-403-US, 010-495-US or 010-315-US.
  • Staff using the Paxton Key app (iOS or Android) to open doors by Bluetooth from a phone or smartwatch.
  • Paxton10 cameras managed in the same system as the doors, or an older Paxton10 Video Controller connecting third-party cameras.
  • A Paxton Entry door panel at the front door, which uses the Paxton Entry app.

What is ending, and when

Two dated changes affect Paxton10 sites. First, Paxton launched the Gen 2 (MK2) door controller on 28 August 2025. It keeps the same part numbers, uses the same mounting holes, and Paxton says it is fully interchangeable with the previous generation, so a failed Gen 1 unit can be swapped for a Gen 2 one-for-one. The catch is software: the MK2 needs Paxton10 software 4.6 SR7 or later, so an older server must be updated before a replacement controller will work. Also note that the MK2's backup battery cannot be used with a PoE+ splitter; Paxton suggests a UPS behind the network switch instead.

Second, Paxton stopped shipping the Paxton10 Video Controller on 1 January 2026. It was the box that brought third-party cameras into Paxton10. Paxton says full technical support continues, but it no longer recommends the Video Controller for new projects and points to Paxton10 cameras. If your cameras are another brand connected through a Video Controller, plan for that before the unit fails. Other dated notices are in our end-of-life tracker.

What offices commonly miss

  • No record of who left. Like most card systems, exits usually release through a request-to-exit button or push bar with no credential, so the system logs who came in but not who went out.
  • No published third-party API. Paxton's integration pages cover Net2 only; we found no developer interface for Paxton10, so outside software cannot easily read events or open doors.
  • Third-party cameras depended on the Video Controller, which stopped shipping on 1 January 2026. New camera additions are steered to Paxton10's own cameras.
  • A Gen 2 replacement controller needs software 4.6 SR7 or later. An out-of-date server can turn a simple controller swap into a software update first.
  • Paxton10 and Net2 are separate systems. Moving between them means different controllers and software, not a licence change.

Integration options

Paxton publishes a developer program for Net2, but in the pages we reviewed it does not publish a third-party API for Paxton10. Inside the system, Paxton10 offers Triggers and Actions, which Paxton says can send email notifications without server configuration, and it lists fire and intruder alarm integration and lockdown. Phone access and administration go through Paxton's own apps: Paxton Key for credentials, Paxton Connect for management and Paxton Entry for the door panel.

For an outside product, that leaves few options today: wiring to the controller's inputs and outputs, or waiting for Paxton to publish an interface. We would rather say that plainly than suggest an integration that does not exist. If Paxton releases a Paxton10 API, we will update this page. As with any networked system, keep the Paxton10 server and controllers on the current release your installer supports.

Upgrade paths

Keep Paxton10 and use what is built in

Paxton10 already includes phone credentials through Paxton Key and email alerts through Triggers and Actions. If those cover your needs, the cheapest move is to keep the system current. Because there is no published third-party API, outside add-ons for exit tracking or a live list of who is inside are limited today.

Refresh within Paxton10

Update the server to 4.6 SR7 or later, then replace failed Gen 1 controllers with Gen 2 units one-for-one. If you rely on the Video Controller for third-party cameras, plan its replacement with Paxton10 cameras or a separate video system, since it stopped shipping on 1 January 2026.

Replace the platform

A full replacement means new controllers, readers and credentials at every door, and possibly a separate video system. It can make sense if you need integrations Paxton10 does not offer, or during a move or fit-out. Paxton's published lifecycle dates for Paxton10 do not force it today.

GateStride and Paxton10

Not yet scheduled Paxton10 is Not yet scheduled on the GateStride compatibility list. It is not on our roadmap yet, and GateStride does not work with Paxton10 today. GateStride is in early access. We have not found a published third-party API for Paxton10, which is the main obstacle. If your office runs Paxton10, tell us anyway; demand from real sites decides what we build next, and it helps us make the case to the manufacturer.

Questions about Paxton10

Can I replace a Paxton10 Gen 1 controller with Gen 2?
Yes, according to Paxton. The MK2 controller launched on 28 August 2025 with the same part numbers and mounting holes, and Paxton says it is fully interchangeable with the previous generation. The server must run Paxton10 software 4.6 SR7 or later, so check the version before ordering a replacement.
Is the Paxton10 Video Controller end of life?
It stopped shipping on 1 January 2026, announced on 1 October 2025. Paxton says full technical support continues, but it no longer recommends the Video Controller for new projects and points customers to Paxton10 cameras. If yours connects third-party cameras, plan how you will replace it when it fails.
Does Paxton10 have an API?
We did not find one. Paxton's published integration program covers Net2, not Paxton10. Paxton10 has built-in Triggers and Actions and Paxton's own apps, but no documented interface for outside software to read events or unlock doors. We will update this page if Paxton publishes one.
How big can a Paxton10 system get?
Paxton's US page says a Paxton10 system scales from one door to 1,000 doors and 1,000 cameras, with up to 100 sites on a single server. A cloud gateway is available to link controllers that sit on separate networks. Most offices use a small fraction of that.
