Upgrade / Brivo

Already running Brivo?

Don’t throw out a working Brivo. Upgrade it.

In development

Not available yet. Our Brivo Access integration is being built and has not been tested on a live customer system. GateStride is in early access; the only integration we call Verified today is Kantech EntraPass. See the full compatibility list.

Brivo is not the dated system on this list — it is a cloud platform, and plenty of offices chose it precisely to get away from a server in the closet. So why would a Brivo customer look at GateStride? Usually for one of two reasons: they want entry that is hands-free, phone in pocket, or they have been asked a question their access system cannot answer — who is still in the building right now? Switching platforms to fix that would be a big, disruptive project. Adding to the Brivo you already have should not be.

Where the Brivo integration stands today

It is in development. We are building it on Brivo’s REST API and webhooks: webhooks so the GateStride center hears about door events as they happen, and the API so a GateStride door node can ask Brivo to open a door under Brivo’s own rules. Brivo stays the system of record for your doors and schedules, and the unlock itself is still Brivo’s.

We have not tested it on a live customer account yet, and we will not call it supported until we have. Early access means we will tell you, plainly, when it is ready to try on your site and what it needs from your Brivo account.

Competitor, or something to build on?

Both, honestly. When an office is choosing a brand-new system, Brivo is one of the cloud platforms people compare, and we say so on our comparison pages. But once Brivo is installed and working, replacing it to gain two features would be the same mistake we warn Kantech and Honeywell owners against. Our job on a Brivo site is not to talk you out of Brivo; it is to add what is missing and leave the rest alone.

The gap a cloud system still has: exits

Almost every office door lets people out freely — a push bar, a motion sensor or a request-to-exit button. That is a life-safety requirement, and it means a card or phone system generally records who came in, but not who went out. Being in the cloud does not change that. It is why “who is still inside?” during a fire drill usually ends with a clipboard.

GateStride is designed to close that gap without touching egress: a hands-free exit read at the door node, a live who’s-inside list in the center, and a one-tap muster roll that shows who is unaccounted for. Read more in know who left.

How it is designed to work

Intended design for Brivo. Status: in development, not yet tested on a live customer system.

You add

Hands-free phone entry (phone, watch or tablet), a live who’s-inside list, exit tracking and one-tap fire muster — managed from one center across every door and site.

Brivo keeps

Your Brivo account, users, groups, schedules, panels, readers, locks, request-to-exit and fire release. GateStride is designed to listen to Brivo events and ask Brivo to unlock — nothing more.

Questions to ask before switching away from Brivo

If someone is proposing to replace your Brivo, it is worth getting answers to these first:

Our overlay-vs-replace comparison and savings calculator help you put numbers on the answers.

No rip-out. No per-user fees on our side.

GateStride is designed to connect to Brivo as a single integration and manage your people’s phones itself, so adding staff does not add GateStride seats. Pricing is a flat quote with no per-user fees. Your Brivo subscription is separate and stays between you and your integrator; we do not change it or resell it.

Good for the system you already own

GateStride is built to add to Brivo, not to move you off it. You keep your Brivo account, panels and readers, your integrator keeps the service relationship, and the office gets exit tracking and a who’s-inside list on top.

Looking for a Brivo dealer?

GateStride is independent software. We are not a Brivo dealer, reseller or authorized partner, and we cannot sell or change your Brivo subscription, panels or service. For those, go to the integrator who set up your account. When our Brivo integration is supported, that same integrator can install GateStride on top — no new vendor relationship for your doors. Integrators who want to offer it can become a partner and keep the resale margin.

What early access looks like

Tell us roughly how many doors and sites you have on Brivo, who maintains the account, and which problem matters most: hands-free entry, exit tracking or muster. We will tell you when the integration is ready to test, what access it needs on your Brivo account, and what installation involves. No commitment and no payment, and we will not contact your integrator without your say-so.

A note on what this page does not cover: we have not yet published a reference page on Brivo’s product versions and hardware, because we only publish product facts we have checked against the manufacturer. For those details, ask your integrator. Brivo appears on Mercury Security’s partner list; if your Brivo site uses Mercury controllers, our HID and Mercury page and end-of-life tracker may help.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add GateStride to Brivo without replacing it?
That is what we are building. Our Brivo integration is in development through Brivo’s REST API and webhooks: it is designed to receive Brivo door events and ask Brivo to unlock, so your Brivo account, panels, readers and locks stay. It has not been tested on a live customer system yet, so today the step is to join early access.
Is GateStride a Brivo dealer or partner?
No. GateStride is independent software and is not a Brivo dealer, reseller or authorized partner. For Brivo subscriptions, hardware or service, talk to the integrator who set up your account. Once our integration is supported, that integrator can install GateStride as well.
Brivo is already cloud-based. Why add anything?
Being in the cloud does not by itself tell you who has left the building. Most doors let people out freely without a badge, so the system records who came in, not who went out. GateStride is designed to add hands-free entry plus a live who’s-inside list, exit tracking and fire muster on top of the Brivo you have.
Do I have to change my doors or readers?
No. The design keeps your Brivo panels, readers, locks, request-to-exit and fire release. GateStride adds a small node at the door and a center that talks to Brivo through its API.
Will it add per-user fees?
Not on our side. GateStride is designed to connect to Brivo as a single integration and manage phones itself, so adding staff does not add GateStride seats. Your Brivo subscription is separate and stays between you and your integrator.

Keep the Brivo. Know who left.
