Access It! (formerly RS2): versions, hardware, end of life and upgrade options

Acre Security (formerly RS2 Technologies)GateStride: Not yet scheduledReviewed October 2026

By Tom Jin

Access It! is an on-premise access control system originally made by RS2 Technologies and now sold by Acre Security. The old RS2 website redirects to Acre. Acre describes the current release, Access It! 13.0, as enterprise-grade, and the system is used by organizations from small businesses to enterprises.

Access It! runs on what Acre calls non-proprietary Mercury hardware, which means the door controllers are standard Mercury boards rather than panels only Acre can supply. Version 13.0 brought a refreshed desktop and web client, light and dark modes and a system insights dashboard. Acre also sells a cloud platform, Acre Access Control, and offers Access It! customers a migration path to it that reuses existing controllers and readers. Acre owns several other access brands too, including DNA Fusion (formerly Open Options).

How to recognise Acre Access It!

Look for the Access It! client on a workstation or in a browser, sometimes still branded RS2 on older versions. In the comms room, door controllers are Mercury boards. Because Mercury panels are used by many software products, the controller alone does not prove you run Access It!; the software name on screen does.

  • The software is called Access It!; older screens, manuals and stickers may say RS2 Technologies.
  • Version 13.0 has a refreshed desktop and web client with light and dark modes.
  • Door controllers are Mercury boards, typically LP, EP or MP series; read the model on the label.
  • Edition names such as Universal, Lite or Universal.NET appear on some older sites; Acre's current pages do not list them.

What is ending, and when

We found no end-of-life notice for Access It! itself; Acre presents 13.0 as its current on-premise release. The brand change from RS2 to Acre did not retire the product. Support dates for older releases were not public.

The firm dates are Mercury's. LP controllers stopped shipping on December 31, 2024 and are supported through December 31, 2028. EP controllers have been end of life since January 1, 2019. Some Series 3 reader boards are also end of sale. Because Access It! runs on standard Mercury hardware, replacing an old board with an MP board behind the same software is usually the first step, not a new system.

What offices commonly miss

  • Exits are usually free: people push a bar or trip a request-to-exit sensor. The system logs a door opening but not who left, so it cannot give an exit record or live occupancy unless exits are badged.
  • The API exists but its documentation is not public. Acre states Access It! has a RESTful API, but we could not find public reference documents; access likely runs through Acre or its partner program.
  • Mixed Mercury generations are common. A single site may have EP, LP and MP boards, with very different support status. Check every label.
  • Edition and licence details from the RS2 era are not shown on Acre's current pages, so confirm what your licence covers before planning expansion.

Integration options

Acre states that Access It! 13.0 includes a robust RESTful API for custom workflows and integrations. We did not find the API reference published openly; Acre's technical documents are behind a login on its product catalog. Expect to work with Acre or its partner program to get access and terms.

At the hardware level, Mercury publishes no end-user API. Mercury panels are reached through the head-end software, so on an Access It! site any integration goes through Access It!, not directly to the controllers.

Upgrade paths

Keep Access It! and add features as software

If doors and panels work, keep them. Phone unlock or a record of who left can come from software connected through the Access It! REST API, once Acre confirms access and terms.

Update to 13.0 and refresh panels

Move to the current release, replace any EP boards now, and plan LP boards before December 31, 2028 with Mercury MP boards. Doors, wiring and cardholders usually stay.

Move to cloud or replace

Acre offers Access It! customers a migration to its cloud platform, Acre Access Control, saying existing controllers and readers are the starting point. Other Mercury-based platforms may also reuse the panels. Check exact model support first.

GateStride and Acre Access It!

Not yet scheduled GateStride has not scheduled an Access It! integration. It is not on our roadmap yet, and we do not support Access It! today. GateStride is in early access and currently works with Kantech EntraPass. If your office runs Access It!, tell us your version and door count. Demand decides what we build next, and we will only call an integration Verified after testing it ourselves on a live system.

Questions about Acre Access It!

Is RS2 Access It! discontinued?
No. RS2 Technologies is now part of Acre Security, and rs2tech.com redirects to Acre. Acre sells Access It! 13.0 as a current on-premise product. Older releases may no longer be supported, so check your version with Acre or your installer.
What hardware does Access It! use?
Acre says Access It! runs on non-proprietary Mercury hardware. Mercury's MP series is current, the LP series is end of sale with support through December 31, 2028, and the EP series has been end of life since January 1, 2019. Read your controller labels to see which you have.
Can I move Access It! to the cloud without new controllers?
Acre offers a migration from Access It! to Acre Access Control, its cloud platform, and says existing controllers and readers are the starting point rather than a replacement. Which specific boards carry over was not confirmed, so ask Acre to check your models.
Does Access It! have an API?
Yes. Acre states that Access It! 13.0 has a RESTful API. The reference documentation is not published openly; Acre's technical documents sit behind a login, so third-party software usually needs Acre's involvement, and possibly a partner agreement, before it can connect.
