Genetec Synergis: versions, hardware, end of life and upgrade options
By Tom Jin
Synergis is the access control module of Genetec Security Center. Security Center is a unified platform: Synergis handles doors and cardholders, Omnicast handles video and AutoVu handles licence plate recognition, all in one client. An office that runs Synergis usually sees doors, cameras and alarms on the same screens rather than in separate programs.
Genetec sells into the mid-market and enterprise. Campuses, cities and large multi-site organizations are typical users. Genetec positions Synergis around open, non-proprietary hardware: Mercury controllers, HID VertX panels and Axis door controllers, connected through Genetec's own Synergis Cloud Link gateway. That openness matters when you later want to change or extend the system, because the door wiring and controllers are not tied to one software vendor.
How to recognise Genetec Synergis
Most offices meet Synergis through the Security Center client, which shows access control, video and alarms together. In the comms room, look for a Synergis Cloud Link gateway and, behind it, Mercury, HID VertX or Axis door controllers. Read the labels on the hardware rather than guessing; the controller brand alone does not tell you which software runs it, because the same Mercury boards are used by many head-end products.
- The management software is Genetec Security Center, with Synergis as the access control part. Video (Omnicast) may appear in the same window.
- A Synergis Cloud Link (SCL) gateway sits between the server and the door controllers.
- Door controllers may be Mercury LP, EP or MP series, HID VertX V100/V200/V300 or Axis A1601 / A1610 units.
- Locks on the doors may include ASSA ABLOY Aperio, Allegion Schlage, BEST Wi-Q, SALTO or SimonsVoss wireless models, all listed as supported by Genetec.

| HID VertX V100, V200, V300 | Supported behind SCL per Genetec's brochure. HID's own lifecycle status for VertX could not be confirmed (HID's site blocks automated reading). | unconfirmed | source |
| Axis A1601, A1610, A1210 | Axis door controllers; the A1610 and A1210 are sold as Powered by Genetec. | current | source |
What is ending, and when
We found no published end-of-life notice for Synergis itself. The dated items that affect Synergis sites are on the hardware side. Mercury LP controllers, which many Synergis sites use, reached end of sale with a last ship date of December 31, 2024, and Mercury supports them through December 31, 2028. Mercury EP controllers have been end of life since January 1, 2019. Mercury's successor is the MP series.
If your Synergis site still has EP panels, that is the hardware to plan around first. LP panels are not urgent, but the end of support in 2028 is a sensible horizon for budgeting. Because Synergis works with open hardware, a controller refresh is normally a hardware swap behind the same software, not a new system. Ask Genetec or your installer which MP models your Security Center release supports before buying anything.

What offices commonly miss
- Exits are usually free: people leave by pushing a bar or tripping a request-to-exit sensor, so the system logs a door opening but not who left. Synergis cannot report who is still in the building unless exits are badged.
- Integration access is gated. The Security Center SDK and Web SDK sit behind Genetec's developer portal, and the exact program tiers and fees were not confirmed. Expect a licensing conversation before any third-party software connects.
- Mixed-age hardware is common. A site may have EP, LP and newer boards side by side, and only the oldest ones are end of life. Check each controller label before accepting a site-wide replacement quote.
- Release numbers matter. Hardware support and integration support depend on the Security Center version, and we could not confirm current release numbers from Genetec's public pages.
Integration options
Genetec documents three integration routes on its developer portal: the Security Center SDK (.NET), the Web SDK (a REST interface) and a plugin model. These are the routes a third party would use to read access events and send door commands. The portal requires a login, and we could not confirm program names, tiers or per-connection licence fees from public pages. Treat any claim of a free, open API with care until Genetec confirms it for your release.
Below the software, the door controllers are mostly Mercury boards. Mercury publishes no end-user API: its hardware is reached through the head-end software that runs it, which here is Security Center. Genetec is listed by Mercury as a Platinum Premier partner. In practice, any integration with a Synergis site goes through Genetec's software, not directly to the panels.
Upgrade paths
Keep Synergis and add features as software
If the doors, readers and controllers work, keep them. Missing features such as phone unlock or a record of who left can come from software layered on top, provided it connects through Genetec's SDK or Web SDK. Budget for any SDK connection licence Genetec requires.
Refresh controllers inside Synergis
Replace end-of-life Mercury EP panels, and plan LP panels before December 31, 2028, with Mercury MP boards or a newer Synergis Cloud Link generation. The software, cardholders and door wiring usually stay. Confirm MP support for your Security Center release first.
Full replacement
Move to a different platform only if Security Center itself no longer fits, for example if you want a cloud-only service. Because Synergis runs on open Mercury hardware, some other platforms can reuse those panels; check before any rip-and-replace quote assumes new controllers.

GateStride and Genetec Synergis
Not yet scheduled GateStride has not scheduled a Genetec Synergis integration. It is not on our roadmap yet, and we do not support Synergis today. GateStride is in early access and currently works with Kantech EntraPass. If your office runs Synergis, tell us which Security Center version and how many doors you have. Demand decides what we build next, and we will only call an integration Verified after testing it ourselves on a live system.
Questions about Genetec Synergis
- Is Genetec Synergis end of life?
- We found no end-of-life notice for Synergis itself. The dated items are on the hardware side: Mercury EP controllers have been end of life since January 1, 2019, and Mercury LP controllers stopped shipping at the end of 2024 with support through December 31, 2028. Check your controller labels.
- What is a Synergis Cloud Link?
- It is Genetec's PoE gateway that connects Security Center to door hardware such as Mercury, HID VertX and Axis controllers and to wireless locks. Genetec says one unit handles up to 256 readers or locks and 600,000 cardholders, and stores up to 150,000 events while offline.
- Can I keep my Mercury panels if I leave Genetec?
- Often yes. Mercury boards are open hardware used by many head-end products, so another Mercury-based platform may be able to take them over. It depends on the panel generation and the new vendor's support list. EP panels are end of life, so plan to replace those regardless.
- Does Synergis have an API?
- Genetec documents a Security Center SDK (.NET), a Web SDK (REST) and a plugin model on its developer portal. The portal needs a login, and we could not confirm public terms or fees. Third-party software normally needs Genetec's approval and a connection licence for each site.
