Bosch Access Management System (AMS): versions, AMC2 hardware, end of life and upgrade options
By Tom Jin
Access Management System (AMS) is the access control software that was sold under the Bosch name. Its ownership has changed twice recently. Bosch's security business, now Keenfinity Group, was sold to Triton, with the sale completed on June 30, 2025. In September 2026 the access control business was rebranded MiCOS, a name that dates back to 1979; MiCOS joined Bosch in 2004 and is headquartered in Eindhoven with development in Aachen. MiCOS's September 2026 product overview still uses the Bosch Access Control Systems product branding.
AMS is aimed at medium to large projects. It comes in three bundles: AMS-Lite for up to 80 doors and 5,000 cards, and AMS-Plus and AMS-Enterprise for up to 10,000 doors, 400,000 cardholders and 200 divisions. It runs Bosch's own AMC2 controllers, and it has its own mobile credential option, Bosch Mobile Access, licensed per AMS system. A larger sibling, the BIS Access Engine (BIS-ACE), serves large and critical-infrastructure sites.
How to recognise Bosch Access Management System
Look for Access Management System or AMS on the management workstation, with Bosch branding on older installs and possibly MiCOS or Keenfinity branding on newer documents. In the comms room, controllers are AMC2 units with model codes starting APC-AMC2, often with API-AMC2 I/O extension boards. A site that shows maps, standard operating procedures and many alarm types in one screen may be running BIS with the Access Engine instead.
- The software is called Access Management System (AMS); the edition may be Lite, Plus or Enterprise.
- Controllers are Bosch AMC2 units: APC-AMC2-2WCF, APC-AMC2-4WCF or APC-AMC2-4R4CF.
- I/O extension boards are labelled API-AMC2-4WE, API-AMC2-8IOE, API-AMC2-16IOE or API-AMC2-16IE, in AEC-AMC2 enclosures.
- Older small sites may run Access Professional Edition (APE) instead of AMS; it is a different product.

What is ending, and when
We found no end-of-life notice for AMS or for AMC2 controllers; both appear in the September 2026 product overview. The changes are in ownership and branding: Bosch's security business became Keenfinity Group, which was sold to Triton in June 2025, and the access business took the MiCOS name in September 2026. Bosch's former US security website now redirects to Keenfinity.
The open question is Access Professional Edition. It does not appear in the September 2026 overview, which lists only AMS and BIS, but we found no dated end-of-life notice. If your site runs APE, ask MiCOS directly about its support status before planning. Separately, the AMS 6.1 release date was not shown on the announcement we read.

What offices commonly miss
- Exits are usually free: people push a bar or trip a request-to-exit sensor. The system logs a door opening but not who left, so it cannot give an exit record or live occupancy unless exits are badged.
- Phone credentials are a licensed add-on. Bosch Mobile Access is licensed per AMS system (licence SKUs in the AMS-FMOB range).
- Hardware is Bosch-only. AMC2 controllers are managed only by AMS or BIS and are not Mercury boards, so other platforms cannot simply take them over.
- Technical documents are behind a login. Datasheets, manuals and the API manual sit in the Keenfinity online catalogue, which requires sign-in, and branding is in transition to MiCOS.
Integration options
Keenfinity documents an Access Control API and a REST API that third-party developers use to integrate with AMS; the integrations page names video and mobile-credential software vendors that use them. The API manual and SDK documents are in the Keenfinity online catalogue, which requires a login.
BIS adds OPC and its own API for large, project-specific integrations. For an office, AMS's REST API is the relevant surface; BIS-level integration is usually a larger engineering project.
Upgrade paths
Keep AMS and add features as software
If doors and AMC2 controllers work, keep them. Phone unlock is available from Bosch Mobile Access as a licensed option, and other features could come from software connected through the AMS REST API, subject to the vendor's terms.
Update AMS and extend AMC2
Move to a current AMS release (5.5, or 6.1 for Enterprise) and add AMC2 controllers or I/O boards as needed. If you run Access Professional Edition, ask MiCOS about moving to AMS-Lite, which covers up to 80 doors.
Full replacement
Leaving AMS means new controllers, because AMC2 hardware runs only on AMS or BIS. Given the recent ownership changes, confirm the vendor's support plans first; that alone is not a reason to replace a working system.

GateStride and Bosch Access Management System
Not yet scheduled GateStride has not scheduled a Bosch AMS integration. It is not on our roadmap yet, and we do not support AMS today. GateStride is in early access and currently works with Kantech EntraPass. If your office runs AMS, tell us your edition, version and door count. Demand decides what we build next, and we will only call an integration Verified after testing it ourselves on a live system.

Questions about Bosch Access Management System
- Is Bosch still making access control?
- The business has changed hands. Bosch sold its security business, Keenfinity Group, to Triton, with the sale completed on June 30, 2025. In September 2026 the access control business was rebranded MiCOS. AMS and AMC2 remain in MiCOS's September 2026 product overview under Bosch Access Control Systems branding.
- Is Bosch Access Professional Edition end of life?
- Not confirmed. APE is missing from MiCOS's September 2026 product overview, which lists only AMS and BIS, but we found no dated end-of-life notice. If you run APE, ask MiCOS about its support status and a move to AMS-Lite, which covers up to 80 doors.
- Which AMS edition do I need?
- AMS-Lite covers up to 80 doors and 5,000 cards. AMS-Plus and AMS-Enterprise scale to 10,000 doors, 400,000 cardholders and 200 divisions. Very large or critical-infrastructure sites may use BIS with the Access Engine instead. Check your licence to see which you have.
- Does AMS support phone unlock?
- Yes, through Bosch Mobile Access, which is licensed per AMS system. AMS also has an Access Control API and a REST API for third-party software. Documents for both sit behind a login in the Keenfinity online catalogue.
