Honeywell WIN-PAK: versions, panels, end of life and upgrade options
By Tom Jin
WIN-PAK is Honeywell's access-control software for small to mid-size sites. Honeywell describes it as scaling from a single site up to multi-region deployments. The current version is WIN-PAK 4.9, sold as Standard Edition (SE) and Professional Edition (PE). It manages Honeywell NetAXS web-embedded panels, PRO4200 and PRO32 controllers, and other Mercury-powered hardware, and it integrates HID Origo 2.0 mobile access natively.
You typically find WIN-PAK in small to mid-size businesses, installed and serviced by a local security dealer. It sits below Honeywell's larger Pro-Watch suite in the range. Several older pieces of the WIN-PAK family are now marked discontinued on Honeywell's catalogue, including WIN-PAK 4.7 SE, WIN-PAK Central Station and some NetAXS units, which is often what prompts an office to review its options.
How to recognise Honeywell WIN-PAK
Check the software on the access-control PC or server: it will be named WIN-PAK, usually with a version and edition such as 4.9 SE or PE, or an older label such as XE or CS. On the hardware side, look for Honeywell NetAXS panels (often a NetAXS-123), PRO4200 or PRO32 controllers, or Mercury boards supplied by Honeywell. If the software is named Pro-Watch instead, see our Pro-Watch page.
- Software named WIN-PAK with an edition such as SE (Standard), PE (Professional), XE or CS (Central Station).
- NetAXS panels, including the NetAXS-123 or NetAXS-4, which can also run on their own through a built-in web server.
- PRO4200 modules (PRO42IC, PRO42IN, PRO42R2, PRO42OUT) labelled as Mercury powered, or older PRO32 controllers.
- MAXPRO Access MPA2 or MPA4 web panels on some smaller installs.
- Honeywell OmniProx or OmniClass readers, or HID readers, with HID Origo mobile access for phone credentials.

What is ending, and when
WIN-PAK 4.9 is current, and the older WIN-PAK 4.7 SE and WIN-PAK Central Station pages are marked discontinued. Honeywell flags individual catalogue pages rather than publishing a dated lifecycle table, and the banner applies to that SKU, not necessarily the whole family, so we report the page status as shown. On the hardware side, the original NetAXS access control unit, the NetAXS-4 starter kit and the MAXPRO Cloud service are marked discontinued, with no end-of-support dates shown. The NetAXS-123 page carries no such banner.
Many WIN-PAK sites also run Mercury hardware, supplied by Honeywell or as PRO4200 modules. Mercury's own LP series ended shipments on 12/31/2024 and reaches end of life on 12/31/2028, so check whether your panels are LP boards; our page on Mercury LP end of sale explains what that means. Whether PRO4200 modules use LP or MP boards is not stated on Honeywell's page. All dated notices are in the end-of-life tracker.

What offices commonly miss
- No record of who left. Exits normally release through a request-to-exit device without a badge, so WIN-PAK logs who came in but not who went out.
- No public API found. Honeywell's WIN-PAK page lists integrations (HID Origo, Suprema, MAXPRO VMS) but no published third-party API or SDK, so add-ons are limited to what Honeywell builds in.
- Phone unlock depends on HID. WIN-PAK's native mobile access is HID Origo 2.0, which brings its own credential setup and licensing with HID.
- Discontinued parts are easy to miss. Some WIN-PAK editions, NetAXS units and MAXPRO Cloud are marked discontinued page by page, without dated end-of-support notices.
Integration options
WIN-PAK's integrations are mostly built in rather than open. Honeywell's 4.9 page lists native integration with HID Origo 2.0 Mobile Access, Suprema biometric readers and MAXPRO VMS video, plus support for Mercury-powered Series 3, PRO42 and PRO32 hardware and NetAXS panels. We did not find a published API or SDK for third-party developers on Honeywell's pages. Installation and programming manuals require a Honeywell sign-in.
NetAXS panels have an embedded web server for standalone use, but no public third-party API was found for them either. That means outside software has no documented way to read WIN-PAK events or send door commands today. Any future integration would likely need a Honeywell partnership or a documented export route, neither of which is confirmed. Honeywell's larger Pro-Watch suite, by contrast, offers a licensed SDK and Web Services API.
Upgrade paths
Keep WIN-PAK and use what is built in
If your panels are supported, the lowest-cost step is to make full use of WIN-PAK 4.9's built-in features, including HID Origo mobile access, and to plan add-on software for when an integration route exists. Ask your dealer what licences you already hold.
Upgrade to 4.9 and refresh panels
Move off discontinued versions such as WIN-PAK 4.7 SE to 4.9, and replace discontinued NetAXS units or Mercury LP boards with current hardware supported by WIN-PAK, such as PRO4200 modules or the NetAXS-123. Staying on WIN-PAK avoids re-enrolling cardholders on a new platform.
Replace the platform
A full replacement means new controllers and software and re-commissioning each door. Because WIN-PAK has no public integration interface, offices that want features WIN-PAK lacks sometimes consider it, but it remains the most expensive route and is not forced by any dated WIN-PAK notice we have found.

GateStride and Honeywell WIN-PAK
Planned WIN-PAK is Planned for GateStride. It is on our roadmap, covering WIN-PAK 4.9 (SE and PE) with NetAXS-123 and PRO4200 panels, but work has not started, so GateStride does not work with WIN-PAK today. We have not found a public WIN-PAK integration interface, which is part of the work still ahead. GateStride is in early access. If you run WIN-PAK, tell us; demand helps decide what we build next.
Questions about Honeywell WIN-PAK
- Is WIN-PAK 4.7 still supported?
- Honeywell's catalogue marks WIN-PAK 4.7 SE as discontinued and shows 4.9 as the current version. The page does not give a dated end-of-support notice, so ask your dealer about support terms. Moving to 4.9 is the normal path; confirm panel and firmware compatibility with your dealer first.
- Can WIN-PAK do phone unlock?
- Yes. WIN-PAK 4.9 integrates HID Origo 2.0 Mobile Access natively, so phones can act as credentials on compatible HID readers. That requires HID mobile credentials and suitable readers. WIN-PAK itself does not record who leaves through doors released by a request-to-exit device.
- Are NetAXS panels discontinued?
- Some are. Honeywell marks the original NetAXS access control unit and the NetAXS-4 starter kit as discontinued. The NetAXS-123 hybrid panel page carries no discontinued banner. No end-of-support dates are shown, so confirm with your dealer before buying spares.
- Does WIN-PAK use Mercury hardware?
- Yes, in part. Honeywell says WIN-PAK supports Mercury-powered Series 3 hardware, and its PRO4200 modules are described as Mercury powered. If your panels are Mercury LP boards, note that Mercury ended LP shipments on 12/31/2024, with end of life on 12/31/2028.
